What to do With Nolan ?
Due to a number of reasons I have not been able to get to many games this season

Southampton and yesterday's game v Swansea.

One topic of conversation around me in the BM lower was how "useless" Nolan was.

Does anyone on this forum see a value in having him in the starting 11 ?

I thought he was blowing out of his arse after about 15 mins and he contributed zero throughout the match

That's my opinion though, I'm sure there are many that see it differently.

Contributed zero?

Bollocks!

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
I thought he did fine yesterday, made a pest of himself as he does

I think he'll drop to the bench when Noble is fit

I don't think he'll throw his toys and will be a good pro coming off the bench

I think he can still be an asset

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
He won't be a starter when Noble is fit will he!
Looked quite good yesterday first half or so but faded as the game wore on and should have been subbed after an hour.

There is no debate here, Sam does not see him as regular starter unless we have injuries, he is effective as a sub or back up and this is how he has been used this season.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
I find it hard to knock any of his performances so far this season but people need someone to criticise and his lack of finesse/pace is glaring at times

Personally I'd have had Morgan in the side but he also carries a goal threat and can be relied upon when needed

I think he knows that he'd drop out of the side once we have all our players fit but is a very useful squad player

Was excellent Tuesday .. and ok yesterday... I'm not his greatest fan but you can't knock his last two games...

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
Thought he was decent enough yesterday. Doesn't start in our best 11 when everyone's fit for me, but a good squad player. Wouldn't have a problem if he started next week even if Nobes is back.

Almafitano deserves to be ahead of Nolan and noble on recent performances.

Thought he has done well with Noble out, put in some decent shifts, you can tell he is fighting for his spot!

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
He's clearly still got a role to play- be that as a sub or as a starter in case of injuries. Two good performances from him in the last couple of games. He puts the effort in.

Let's face it, Nolan as a sub/squad player is far better than the options we had even this time last year. If he performs well enough to legitimately win his place back, then all the better, we're all winners.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
People slagging him off generally just have the blinkers on and are unable to see when he has decent games.

On Tuesday he was the only player we had capable of actually passing the ball without scuffing it and he also done a good job yesterday.

He'll never be the sort of player to stand out, but what he normally does is efficient and effective. I'm sure his experience and the other older boys is a factor in to why we seem so damn good and fighting back from losing positions this season.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
I thought he played really well yesterday. It helps him having 'legs' around him.

People need to realise we need more than just a first choice 11.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
Did well to win the ball back to give to Sakho who then won the corner for our second.
Could have had a goal but for a decent save from Flappyhandski too.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
I certainly see value in him being part of our squad. BFS has to shuffle his squad and at least now we have a good standard to play with. We have a cluster of fixtures coming up and then the Africa Cup of Nations [ unless the ebola crisis causes a postponement ] so I can still see our Captain playing a regular role.

If Noble had been fit yesterday I'm sure Nolan would have been on as a sub and not a starter.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
For the first time yesterday he looked like part of our new set up.

If he's to play like that every week he's fine by me.

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
Totally agree OM.

He's been decent the last two games actually.

It's up to Nobes, Amalfitano etc to win their places back.

It's a great dilemma to have!

Re: What to do With Nolan ?
his main contributions are having a go at the ref & linesmen and doing his chicken dance - this can all be done from the stands.
